How long have you been taking pictures?
I purchased my first 110 camera when I was 9-10 years old and as I got older, my cameras got bigger and more advanced. I have always enjoyed taking family photos and started doing freelance photography in high school and college.
What kind of camera equipment do you use?
I have had the opportunity to shoot with a lot of different cameras. I started out shooting film, medium and large format cameras and have been shooting with professional Nikon digital cameras for many years now.
Do you print your own photos?
Although many of today's photo printers are nice, I want the best archival quality that I can provide to all of my clients. I worked at custom photo labs throughout my years in college and still believe in the traditional photographic print process. I still owe my clients that quality and that is why I still use professional labs to print your images.
Can I make my own prints?
As with most photographers, I retain all rights to the images that I take. You may purchase a CD or DVD of your images and that will include a copyright release that will allow you to print photos from the disk. I occasionally use photographs that I take for promotion online and in printed materials.
I had a blemish during my photo session, can you remove that?
I have been using Photoshop for the past 16 years for photo retouching and editing. I am often still amazed that I have a great tool at my disposal to remove blemishes, stray hairs, smooth complexions, sun spots or whatever needs to be corrected. Even with this tool, I'm take great caution in making sure that the image is enhanced, without appearing un-natural.
Can you recommend a camera for my family?
I have been giving camera advise for years to family and friends. I know how daunting buying a camera can be as new models with new features come out every couple of months.
How long have you been shooting weddings?
I shot my first wedding my senior year in high school in 1990 for a friend of the family. I had my dad help carry my camera bags and after about an hour, I sent him away and comfortable shot the wedding without a hitch and I've been going strong ever since.
Do you have an assistant that comes with you?
I usually work alone as it is easier for me to direct the wedding photography instead of focusing on an assistant taking photos as well. I then know what photos have been taken and nothing is left to chance. Your wedding day is very important to me and capturing the day's special moments is my top priority.
What happens if you are unable to photograph the wedding do to some emergency?
I always have several photographers that I can call upon to handle covering your wedding. Even if I am unable to attend in person, which has never happened, you can feel confident that your wedding day memories will be captured by a fellow professional photographer.
Do you carry a backup camera?
I always carry a backup camera, extra memory cards, batteries and lighting equipment in case there is a glitch in a piece of equipment. All of my camera equipment is thoroughly tested before each and every wedding or photo session to assure that everything is working correctly.
How much do you charge for your weddings?
Wedding prices vary and I have several reasonable wedding packages for the bride to choose from. You can email or contact me to receive a detailed price and information packet.
What is the wedding day process and how many hours do you stay?
I usually arrive two hours before the wedding to photograph the bride and groom separately. During the ceremony I photograph from the balcony or back of the church using no flash to disturb the ceremony. After the ceremony, I spend a maximum of 30 minutes afterwards to shoot the family and wedding party shots. I work hard not to keep your guest waiting at the reception area. Reception is filled with candid shots of guests, cutting the cake, throwing garter and bouquet and dancing. Photography time is completed in six hours and additional time can be requested for an additional fee.
